Richard Downs Limited Edition Prints

Need great art on a tight budget? Here is a way to inject high quality, affordable art in your office
or workplace. Many professional illustrators are producing limited edition prints of their work at very reasonable prices. You can find examples of this trend on Etsy (the hipper E Bay) for artists and others who handcraft their work and sell direct online This is a win-win. Support the arts community and gain some amazing art for your workspace or home office.

My friend Richard Downs a talented fine artist and nationally recognized illustrator, has released two very unique silkscreen prints which are available through Etsy at his online store RichardDownsArt.

The first of his limited edition releases is Pufferfish (see image above) He has just released
Max the Crystal Skull inspired by the ancient Mayan relic which is said to have unusual psychic powers. Max has just won recognition from the New York Society of Illustrators. Congratulations Richard!

I would love to hear from you about artists you find inspiring or are collecting now.

Sustainable Lighting Solutions

Ok, so every Saturday I want to showcase a product, material or space that is sustainable, green, and helping to save the planet...you get the picture.
I ran across this lighting manufacturer Conant Metal & Light the other day. They are based in Vermont.
Love the re-use of old Bell Jars and those old fashioned colored telephone insulators.
Here is what they have to say about themselves:

"Our repurposed lighting transforms obsolete and vintage objects into green, energy efficient lighting; it is a mindful blend of environmental consciousness, design ethic, and our lifelong case of nostalgia."

I am so excited about this, I'm posting it on Friday!

Trending now...the Co-Op Office

Ran across this cooperative office space The Hub in Berkeley last week at the David Brower Center. This concept is taking off around the country in small towns and big cities alike. Shared office space, drop in to use a desk, network and troubleshoot,go online, hold a meeting. People with a project, or starting a new company can rent space month to month at a fraction of the cost of setting up a traditional office space. Looks like fun.

I like the way The Hub, shows us exactly how their space is organized (in 3-d)....a great marketing tool! Let me know if you have seen others sucessfully using this concept, or are using it yourself.
